Before Fame
She served in the Legislative Assembly of Maharashta, her hometown, and served in the Parliament from 1985 to 1990.
Trivia
- During her presidency, she commuted the sentences of 35 prisoners from death to life in prison, a move which garnered much scrutiny.
Family Life
She married her husband, Devisingh Ransingh Shekhawat, in 1965. The couple had two children.
Associated With
After she retired from the presidency at the end of her term, she was succeeded by Pranab Mukherjee in 2012.
