Motoo Abiko

Better known as Fujiko Fujio, a pen name he shared with his longtime artistic collaborator Hiroshi Fujimoto, this manga artist rose to fame for a Japanese comic book series called Doraemon and went on to produce other popular comics, including Obake no Q Taro and Magical Sahara.

He and Fujimoto published their first manga, Tenshi no Tama Chan, during their high school years. During his rise to artistic prominence, Abiko supported himself by working for the Toyama Newspaper Company.

A native of Japan's Toyama Prefecture, he met and began collaborating with Fujimoto in elementary school. Abiko met his future wife when he was in his early thirties.

During their early years, he and Fujimoto were mentored by the famous Japanese manga artist Osamu Tezuka.
