Judith Scott

Internationally famous for her works of fiber art, this American visual artist suffered from Down's Syndrome and was also both deaf and mute. Her pieces have been exhibited at the New York and San Francisco Museums of Modern Art, as well as at Switzerland's Collection de l'Art Brut and France's L'Aracine Musee D'Art Brut.

When she was seven years old, she was placed in the Columbus State Institution and was determined (perhaps falsely) to have an IQ of only 30.

She grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio, with a fraternal twin sister named Joyce Scott. Her sister, who was of normal mental capacity, later became her guardian.

She and Magdalena Abakanowicz were both part of the fiber art movement.
