Henry II of France

King of France who reigned from 1547 until his death following a jousting tournament in 1559. He inherited the throne after the death of his older brother. He was succeeded by his son Francis II who was married to Mary Queen of Scots. Major political events that took place during his reign included the Italian Wars against the Habsburgs and the Reformation.

He was born to King Francis I and Claude, Duchess of Brittany. He was one of the couple's seven children, and one of the only two to survive into their thirties. His coronation took place on July 25th, 1547 at Reims Cathedral.

He married Catherine De Medici in 1533. The couple had ten children, though not all survived into adulthood. He also had three children with other women.

Henry has been depicted in film and television shows by actors such as Roger Moore, Dougray Scott, and Alan Van Sprang.
